Tejgaon troublemakers to be held: Annisul
Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation Annisul Huq on Monday said law enforcers have been asked to arrest the troublemakers involved in Sunday’s Tejgaon truck stand violence.
Fifteen vehicles, including three dump trucks, two pay-loaders, and one tyer-dozer of DNCC, were damaged and five employees of the corporation injured when unruly transport workers, led by a local syndicate, attacked the DNCC workers during a pre-scheduled eviction drive at Tejgaon truck stand on Sunday noon, the DNCC mayor said.
Annisul Huq came up with the remark during a press briefing at a city hotel on Monday. The DNCC organised the briefing on the eviction drive.
Briefing reporters, the mayor said the corporation conducted eviction drive at the Tejgaon truck stand to evict illegal establishments and clear the road, not to shut the truck stand. ‘We won’t relocate the truck stand…we’ll build a modern one instead,’ Annisul added.
The DNCC mayor said illegal establishments have already been evicted from Tejgaon truck stand and Karwan Bazar areas, and the areas will be kept free from hazard at any cost as he is committed to easing the city’s traffic jam.
Narrating various initiatives taken by the city corporation for the security of its dwellers, Annisul Huq said 100 CC cameras have already installed at various strategic points in Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara and Niketon areas, while 1,000 more will be also installed by June next.
