Municipal polls eyewash: Khaleda

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson, Khaleda Zia, on Tuesday night termed the December 30 municipal polls eyewash alleging that the government wanted to stage a ‘farce’ in the name of election.
She made the remarks while addressing a programme of distribution of donation to some Chhatra Dal activists who were seriously injured and maimed in attacks by law enforcers during anti-government movement. The programme was held at her Gulshan office.
Khaleda mentioned the last mayoral elections in divided Dhaka City Corporations and Chittagong City
Corporation and alleged that the government was going to repeat it.
She said that BNP nominated candidates for the municipal polls  were not allowed to submit their nomination papers and many BNP men were now being arrested so that they could not work for the election.
She termed the Election Commission ‘worthless’ and ‘subservient’ to Sheikh Hasina saying that BNP never expected fair election under this commission.
Khaleda said that they gathered all information of the conspiracies the ruling Awami League was hatching over the municipal polls.
She said that the AL wanted to show its popularity by rigging the local polls.
Khaleda asked the government to quit power and hold national election to test popularity.
She called upon all to awake and raise voice to get rid of such situation.
She urged army to look at the people of the country and see under condition they were living.
She alleged that army was being pushed into wrong path and their characters were being spoiled.
She urged the judiciary, police, Rapid Action Battalion and civil administration to carry out their responsibilities and duties neutrally.
