5 missing as ferry boat sinks in Narayanganj

At least five people, including three of a family, went missing as a ferry boat sunk after being hit by a vessel on Buriganga River at Decreer Char of Narayanganj Saturday morning.
The boat, carrying 40 devotees of Lengta Fakir, left Radha Nagar terminal around 6am and was hit by a large vessel bound for Dhaka from Barisal amid dense fog near Decreer Char, police and fire service officials said.
Most of the passengers managed to swim to the shore, but five, including three of a family, remained missing, said fire service deputy assistant director Din Mani.
The missing were Selim Khan, his daughter Moushumi Akter and son Imon Khan of Mizmizi in Siddirganj, Narayanganj, and Abdul Kadir and Selim Miah of Moktarpur in Munshiganj.
Missing Selim Khan’s wife Lutfa Begum told New Age the ferry boat left Radha Nagar in the morning.
Before reaching the terminal at Decreer Char, a large vessel hit their ferry boat, said Lutfa, who was on the boat.
Fire service’s Din Mani said the vessel was traced and divers were trying to recover it.
None of the missing was recovered till Saturday evening.
