BNP celebrates Victory Day taking out procession

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Wednesday celebrated the 45th Victory Day with holding various programmes, including a Victory Day Procession in the city.
The party brought out the procession from in front of its Nayapaltan central office at about 3:00pm.
It was the first street programme of the party after over a year as it last brought out a procession in the city on August 16, 2014 with black flags protesting against the killing of over 2,000 innocent Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, reported United News of Bangladesh.
The black-flag rally was the first street programme of the BNP-led alliance after the January 5, 2014 elections boycotted by all opposition parties.
The party’s last street programme on national issue was, however, held in the city on October 10, 2012 demanding restoration of the revoked election-timer caretaker government.
In a brief address before taking out the procession, acting BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir instructed the party men to end the procession peacefully.
He also urged people to join their movement to restore democracy.
Later, the party leaders and activists, carrying the national flag, placards, banners and portraits of party founder Ziaur Rahman, chairperson Khaleda Zia and their eldest son Tarique Rahman, brought out the procession that peacefully reached Malibagh crossing passing through Bijoynagar, Kakrail and Shantinagar, amid tight security.
Fakhrul took part in the procession on a truck along with other senior leaders.
He concluded the procession in Malibagh crossing thanking the party men for peacefully joining the programme showing respect for the country’s Liberation War heroes.
BNP senior leaders Shahjahan Omar, M Shahjahan, Mahbubuddin Khokan, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Fazlul Haq Milon and Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, among others, joined the rally.
Earlier in the morning, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia paid homage to the martyred freedom fighters who made the supreme sacrifice for the country during the Liberation War in 1971 by placing wreaths at the National Memorial at Savar.
Khaleda, flanked by her party’s senior leaders, placed wreaths at the
National Memorial at about 10:45am.
Later, the BNP chief drove straight to the grave of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman at Sher-e-Banglanagar in the capital where she, along with her party leaders and activists, placed wreaths around noon.
The party will also arrange a discussion at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh on Friday, marking the Victory Day.
