Construction worker dies as InterContinental Dhaka ceiling collapses
A construction worker died and 10 others injured early Wednesday as a ceiling of under-construction structure of InterContinental Dhaka collapsed on them at Shahbagh in the city.
Altaf Hossain, 32, succumbed to his injury at the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital around 1:30am, DMCH out-post in-charge Mojammel Haque said.
The injured are identified as Jakirul, 26, Alam, 32, Sathil, 19, Prodip, 20, Sayem, 35, Abdur Rauf, 30, Fajlu Mia, 32, Ripon, 30, Majnu, 32, and Moktar Hossain, 38.
One of the co-workers of the victims, Sohel Ahmed, said that they were working in an under-construction portion of the hotel, previously known as Hotel Sheraton, while around 12:45am the ceiling suddenly fell down on them, leaving 11 people injured.
The injured were rushed to DMCH.
Among the injured, the condition of three workers are critical, said out-post in-charge Mojammel.
Fire Service control room duty-officer Mizanur Rahman confirmed the matter.
