10 killed in BSF plane crash
Director general-level meeting between Border Guard Bangladesh and Indian Border Security Force, which was scheduled for today to begin, was postponed as 10 people were killed in a BSF plane crash near Delhi airport soon after taking off on Tuesday morning.
Border guard public relations officer Mohsin Reza confirmed the news.
The meeting was scheduled to be held in Dhaka and all preparations were completed, border guard of
ficials said, adding that 10 members of the BSF team had already reached Dhaka for the meeting and others were supposed to reach on Tuesday afternoon.
A new date would be fixed for the border conference after consultations between both director generals, the officials said.
Associated Press reported that a small Indian paramilitary plane crashed just outside New Delhi’s main airport on Tuesday, killing all 10 people on board, officials said.
An inquiry has been ordered to determine the cause of the crash of the Super King plane belonging to BSF, state minister of aviation Mahesh Sharma told reporters.
The plane crashed into the boundary wall at the airport and landed in a small body of water, said Delhi Fire Services director AK Sharma. Part of the plane was submerged under water, he said.
The Hindu reported that the flight was going to Ranchi with 10 BSF officials – Pilots BP Bhatt and Rajesh Shriram, deputy commandant D Kumar, inspectors RP Yadav and SN Sharma, sub-inspectors Ravindra Kumar, Sunder Singh and Chotte Lal, assistant sub-inspector DP Chouhan and constable K Rawat – on board.
Border guard director general Major General Aziz Ahmed expressed deep condolence to his BSF counterpart Devendra Kumar Pathak over phone. Aziz also sent a condolence letter to the BSF authorities.
