Govt college teachers to abstain from work

Government college teachers would abstain from work on January 4 and 5 unless the  government restored time scales and selection grades by December 31.
BCS General Education Association president Nasrin Begum announced the action programme at a news conference in the capital Tuesday.
Being members of the Bangladesh Civil Service (Education) cadre the government college teachers  demanded the same benefits to be enjoyed by the other civil service groups under the new pay structure.
They demanded an unambiguous declaration from the authorities, in an official circular, that associate professors on promotion as professors would be placed in Grade 3.
To press the demands, they abstained from work in all the 307 government colleges on several days in September and October teachers.
They are pushing the demands under the banner of Bangladesh Civil Service General Education Association.
The teachers said that they felt aggrieved over placing the government college professors in Grade 4 of the new pay structure.
The next course of action would  be chalked out at an emergency general meeting of the BCSGE Association on January 22,  said the association’s secretary general IK Selim Ullah Khondaker.
