NEW YEAR’S EVE : US warns its citizens about possible attack

The US Embassy in Dhaka has warned the US nationals about ‘possible attacks’ against hotels and clubs potentially in connection with New Year’s Eve celebrations.
The embassy issued the warning in a ‘security message’ posted in its web site on Monday.
The embassy also reminded the US nationals to maintain vigilant situational awareness and to avoid large crowds and crowded places during their travel.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police announced increased security measures for December 31, including a prohibition on outdoor parties after 8:00pm and increased checkpoints in Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara and the Dhaka University of areas, it said.
The US citizens were also reminded that there was an active Travel Alert for Bangladesh issued on November 10 and a Worldwide Travel Alert issued on November 23.
The UK government on Monday updated its travel advice asking its nationals to stay careful and take appropriate security precautions during their movement in Bangladesh.
