Two labour bodies to merge
Two labour organisations – Jatiya Sramik Federation Bangladesh and Jatiya Sramik Federation – are going to merge into a single body.
Leaders of the two federations made the announcement on Wednesday at a press conference at Asad Auditorium at Workers Party central office.
Jatiya Sramik Federation Bangladesh general secretary Safiuddin Ahmed said that the two registered labour organisations would unify to strengthen labour movements.
The merger would be completed on February 5 at a joint council session in the city.
Late labour leader Abul Bashar was the founder of Jatiya Sramik Federation Bangladesh and late labour leader Shafiqur Rahman Majumder had founded Jatiya Sramik Federation.
After the merger, the unified labour organisation would wage movement for enactment of a democratic labour law dropping undemocratic provisions stipulated in the existing law, formation of a permanent wage commission, introduction of free trade unionism, Tk 12,000 as the monthly minimum national wage and safety of workers at work places.
Jatiya Sramik Federation Bangladesh president Sheikh Hafizur Rahman, central leader Quamrul Ahsan and Jatiya Sramik Federation general secretary Amirul Haque Amin, central Shahidul Islam, among others, were present.
