GOVT SERVICE : FFs want retirement age raised

Freedom fighters, who are government officials, on Saturday urged the government to implement the Supreme Court order on increasing retirement age of freedom fighters from 57 to 65 in government service.
On November 16, 2015 the Appellate Division of Supreme Court upheld a High Court verdict that ordered to place a proposal to the cabinet for increasing retirement age of freedom fighters from 57 to 65 in government service.
At a view exchange programme organised by the National Freedom Fighters Foundation at National Press Club, speakers urged the prime minister Sheikh Hasina to take an initiative to implement the ‘logical demand’ of the freedom fighters.
Addressing as chief guest Dhaka University teacher Syed Anwar Hossain said some bureaucrats are always trying to ignore or delay the orders of prime minister which is totally unacceptable.
There is no alternative without implementation of the Supreme Court order, he added.
National Press Club president Shofiqur Rahman urged the government to implement the Supreme Court order as soon as possible.
Sammilita Sangskritik Jote president Golam Kuddus said that the government should not delay in implementation of the Supreme Court order as our freedom fighters had fought and sacrificed with highest patriotism for our country’s independence.
Former Sammilita Sangskritik Jote president Nasiruddin Yousuf Bachchu urged the government to take an initiative to implement the demand of the freedom fighters of our country.
NFFF senior vice-chairman Manaranjan Ghoshal moderated the programme while freedom fighter MA Halim, Independent University teacher Mohammad A Arafat, among others, spoke at the programme.
