Politicians Abul Kasem, Nawab Ali remembered

Politicians, academics and professionals on Friday said the spirits of the liberation war of 1971 were not materialised in the country.
Their observation came at a condolence meeting at National Press Club in the city.
They urged all for organising a united movement for implementing the spirits of the war of independence and restoring democratic rights of the people.
A citizens committee organised the condolence meeting at the National Press Club where they condoled the death of Gana Forum presidium member Abul Kasem and office secretary Mohammad Nawab Ali. They died last year.
Gana Forum president Kamal Hossain said Abul Kasem and Nawab Ali worked for establishing exploitation and repression free society but their dreams were still unaccomplished.
The people of the country have lost their voting rights and the country is not running democratically, he said.
He called on the left and democratic political parties to work together for restoring democracy in the country.
Mujahidul Islam Selim, president of the Communist Party of Bangladesh called on the political parties to work for strengthening an alternative political force, after coming out of influences of two big political parties, Awami League and Bangladesh Nationalist Party.
Chaired by Kamal Hossain,    Forward Party convener ABM Mostafa Amin, women leader and physician Fauzia Moslem, teacher Bilkis Banu, wife of Abul Kasem, Ali Rashed Shikder, son of Nawab Ali Shikder, and cultural activist Quamrul Ahsan Khan spoke among others, in the meeting.
