‘Real BNP’ men chased away again
Bangladesh Nationalist Party activists on Sunday chased away a group of activists of the ‘Real BNP’ who marched towards the central BNP office at Naya Paltan.
Witnesses said that about 70 activists of the ‘Real BNP’, launched recently by one Kamrul Hasan Nasim, marched towards the BNP office from Nightingale crossing and faced resistance from activists of BNP-backed student organisation Chhatra Dal and youth organisation Juba Dal triggering a brief clash at about 3:45pm.
The Real BNP activists marched with a front running pick-up carrying a banner inscribed ‘Showdown of Party Revolution’, the witnesses said.
Both the groups chased each other triggering panic in the area. During the clash, the pick-up of the ‘Real BNP’ activists was set on fire, said Paltan police station officer-in-charge Morshed Alam.
No casualties were reported, he said.
BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi at a press conference at the party central office after the incident said, ‘The government wanted to capture the BNP office unleashing some street boys.’
When contacted, Kamrul Hasan Nasim said that they had a programme of ‘cultural showdown’ for Sunday when some ‘goons’ from BNP office attacked them.
‘Our men wanted to march through the road [in front of BNP office] carrying some books and poems of me as part of the cultural showdown of party revolution,’ he said.
Earlier on January 2, BNP activists chased away the ‘Real BNP’ activists who tried to enter the BNP central office.
