Rehabilitate Urdu speaking people form camps, demand speakers at a roundtable

Politicians, professionals and labour leaders at a roundtable discussion in the city on Monday called on the Awami League-led government to take proper steps to rehabilitate the Urdu speaking people living in different camps across the country.
They urged the government to rehabilitate them in Dhaka city or adjacent to the city so that they could earn their livelihood easily.
Urdu Speaking Peoples Youth Rehabilitation Movement organised the roundtable at National Press Club, where president of the organisation Mohammad Sadakat Khan read out the keynote paper.
Recently, the government has taken steps to rehabilitate the Urdu speaking people living in different camps in Dhaka city who were living there since after the war of independence in 1971.
He called on the government to take steps to rehabilitate them in the camps they were living in or giving them lands adjacent to Dhaka city.
ASM Abdur Rob, president of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal faction, said that the Urdu speaking people living in Bangladesh in different camps had the right of rehabilitation as they have got recognition as citizens of Bangladesh, according to a High Court verdict.
He also called on the government to give them land for building homes in Dhaka city or its adjacent area.
Khalequzzaman, general secretary of the Socialist Party of Bangladesh said that more than three lakh Urdu speaking people are living in different camps who expressed their allegiance to Bangladesh. So the state must ensure them the rights of citizen.
Shahidullah Shikder, a central leader of the Nagarik Oikya, said that the Urdu speaking people living in different camps in the country were passing an inhuman life in the shanties allotted for them.
He called on the government to refrain from evicting them from the camps without ensuring their proper rehabilitation.
Chaired by Mohammad Sadakat Khan, politicians Mohammad Enamul Haque, Iftekher Ahmed Babu, Urdu speaking leaders Mostaque Ahmed, Imran Khan and others took part in the discussion.
