Daily Star editor should resign for publishing false news: Nasim
Awami League presidium member, spokesman of the 14-party alliance and health and family welfare minister Mohammad Nasim on Friday said editor of the Daily Star Mahfuz Anam should tender resignation from his post for publishing false news during the political changeover of 1/11 (0f 2007).
‘Of late, the Daily Star editor has confessed that he had committed a mistake by publishing false news against Sheikh Hasina. But damage had already been done by this time. Thanks for your confession that you have committed a mistake. But, you should have to tender resignation from your post in the Daily Star for your offence as your confession would not serve the purpose,’ he said.
Mohammad Nasim said this while speaking at a joint meeting at the central office of Awami Juba League at Bangabandhu Avenue in the city. AJL convened the joint meeting to make the Monday’s huge human-chain programme in the capital a success.
AJL chairman Omar Faruque Chowdhury presided over the meeting, also addressed, among others, by Awami League joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, AJL general secretary Harun-ar-Rashid, presidium members Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury and Mahbubur Rahman Hiron and Dhaka South City unit AJL president Ismail Chowdhury Samrat.
Mohammad Nasim said, ‘Earlier, media-mughal Rupert Murdock had to resign for publishing false news against the prime minister of Britain. Mahfuz Anam should have to show ethical courage in an identical way tendering resignation from his post of editorship for his accused character assassination of the politicians.’
