Khaleda condemns fresh detention of Mahmudur Rahman

Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia on Tuesday expressed deep concern over the fresh detention of Amar Desh acting editor Mahmudur Rahman showing him arrested in another case after he secured bail from various courts in all cases against him.
In a statement, she also expressed concern over police seeking remand of Mahmudur.
‘I strongly protest against this heinous and shameless repression and condemn ill attempts to keep him in detention by any means,’ Khaleda said in the statement signed by her press secretary Maruf Kamal Khan.
Khaleda said the way Mahmudur was shown arrested in a case after he got bail in the last case from the highest court was nothing but ‘audacity’ and tantamount to ‘contempt of court’.
‘I caution all concerned about the consequences for ill-attempts to repress journalists and suppress difference of opinions,’ she said.
Khaleda said even after a directive of police commissioner of Dhaka a few days ago not to show anyone arrested anymore, Mahmudur was detained to continue repression on him and stifle his voice.
She demanded immediate release of all journalists including Mahmudur Rahman and Shawkat Mahmud.
