No police jobs for BNP-Jamaat men: PM

The prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, on Wednesday said senior police officers involved with the recruitment process should ‘prevent’ the probable inclusion of BNP and Jamaat-Shibir-minded candidates in the police force.
‘We do not want to interfere with it, but we hope that police officers will ensure that those who are involved in criminals activities, arson attacks and militant acts will not make their presence felt in a discipline force like the police,’ the Prime Minister told the parliament.
Hasina, replying to a question from ruling coalition MP Syed Nazibul Bashar Maizbhandary, urged the lawmakers to inform the intelligence agency if any BNP-Jamaat men have already been recruited in the police forces. The intelligence agency must verify the allegation and take appropriate action, she added.
She said that senior police officers should keep in mind that 18 to 19 members of police were killed by the BNP-Jamaat men during the attacks in 2013 and 2014.
She said there are certain policies and guidelines for the recruitment of manpower to the police force and the police officials concerned are in charge of it.
Replying to a starred question from Md Abul Kalam Azad (Gaibandha-4), Hasina informed the House that the proposal for creating 50,000 new posts in the police force as part of enhancing its capacity got approval in principle on January 11, 2015 while already some 13,888 posts have been created for various units. ‘The rest of the posts will be created in phases according to necessity.’
Out of the newly created 13,888 posts, she said some 7,139 have been created for beefing up security in Dhaka metropolis and the process of appointment against these posts is going on at present.
