2 siblings found dead in city apartment
A 14-year-old girl and her six-year-old brother were found dead at their house at Banasree in the capital on Monday.
The family alleged that the siblings died after having stale food brought from a nearby restaurant on Sunday night.
The girl, Nusrat Jahan Arani, Class-V student of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College’s Bailey Road branch, and her brother Alvi Aman, a nursery student of Holy Crescent International School and College, were declared dead at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital at about 7:45pm, hospital officials said.
The family said the siblings were found unconscious after having their lunch.
Their father Aman Ullah, 45, also a garment accessories businessman, and mother Mahfuza Malek Jesmin, 35, a housewife, could not say what exactly happened to their kids in their apartment on the fourth-floor of a seven-storey building.
Their aunt Afroza Malek Nila said that the family had have their dinner at Kent Thai and Chinese Restaurant at Banasree and brought back some leftovers.
She said that the siblings took the leftovers at lunch on Monday and went to take a nap with their mother.
The mother found the kids unconscious when she awake.
Her sister Nila and Aman’s friends Jahid and Golam Sarwar rushed the kids to the hospital, but the physicians on duty pronounced their deaths.
On information, police rushed to the house, but it was found locked.
The Motijheel crime division additional deputy commissioner Tarik Bin Rashid said initially they were informed that the siblings ate stale food.
‘We are investigating what actually happened,’ he added.
