Hasina became PM as Jan 11 outcome: BNP
BNP senior leader Gayeshwar Chandra Roy on Tuesday said Sheikh Hasina became prime minister as an outcome of the 1\11 conspiracy and her party is the most beneficiary of it.
‘You’re enjoying the results of the 1\11 conspiracy and vote rigging. You couldn’t be the prime minister had the 1/11 conspiracy not been there,’ he said pointing at the PM.
Gayeshwar came up with the remarks while speaking at a protest programme arranged by greater Noakhali Jatiyatabadi Student Forum at the Jatiya Press Club demanding the release of BNP student affairs secretary Shaheeduddin Chowdhury Anee.
Mentioning that Sheikh Hasina herself had claimed that the 1/11 administration was the outcome of her party’s movement, he said, ‘If the 1/11 regime is the result of your movement, you should award Prothom Alo’s Matiur Rahman and The Daily Star’s Mahfuz Anam and other journalists who played their parts in gaining the success.’
Gayeshwar, a BNP standing committee member, warned that the plot of 1/11 is still on with a different strategy. ‘This conspiracy can only be thwarted by restoring democracy in the country.’
Referring to the prime minister’s recent remarks that the two editors of the country’s leading dailies were behind the minus-two formula, the BNP leader suggested Sheikh Hasina to first find out the Awami League leaders who also developed and promoted the formula.
He also claimed that though it was called minus-two formula, the main aim was to leave out Khaleda Zia from politics.
About their party’s council, Gayeshwar said the government earlier foiled their national council by arresting 156 party leaders and activists from BNP’s Nayapaltan central office. ‘But, this time our council will be held, no matter whether the government arrests our 1056 leaders and activists.’
He alleged that the government is all set to rig the upcoming union parishad election. ‘I want to tell the government, hold a fresh and credible election if you have the courage.’
Speaking at another discussion programme arranged by Shikkhak-Karmachari Oikyajote at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity, BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said their party will hold its sixth national council at any cost on March 19. ‘No government plot can thwart our council.’
He alleged that though they sought permission from the authorities of the three venues in the city, they are getting permission for none of them.
