Banasree siblings killing: RAB suspects mother’s link

The father of siblings found dead inside their rented apartment at Banasree in the city on Monday, Mohammad Amanullah, on Thursday prosecuted his detained wife Mahfuza Malek Jesmin, 38, on charge of killing their children.
Rampura police station duty officer sub-inspector Masudul Alam said that Amanullah field the case with the police station at about 9:45pm naming Mahfuza as the lone accused.
The case was filed after the Rapid Action Battalion on Thursday afternoon claimed that Mahfuza strangled the children out of her ‘frustration’ over their future.
The battalion director (legal and media wing), Mufti Mahmud Khan, at a briefing at the battalion headquarters claimed that the kids’ mother, Mahfuza Malek Jesmin, 38, confessed that ‘she was suffering from frustration over the future of her children and strangled them.’
He said that they revealed the information in the preliminary investigation and interrogations and the facts would be revealed in a thorough investigation.
He, however, said that the family used to spend most of their expenses for the education and well-being of the children. The family moved to Dhaka for the education of the kids.
He said that the ‘smart’ and ‘intelligent’ woman, Mahfuza Malek Jesmin, 38, a management graduate from Government Ashek Mahmud College in Jamalpur, first strangled her daughter Nusrat Jahan Arani, 12, and later her son Alvi Aman, 6, with a scarf when they were taking a nap at about 5:30pm on Monday, just a day after the 14th anniversary of her marriage.
The battalion spokesman believed that Mahfuza kept her husband Mohammad Amanullah, an apparel accessories trader who was at Uttara during the incident,
