SEXUAL HARASSMENT: Ahsanullah Univ teacher held, remanded in custody

Suspended Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology teacher Mahfujur Rashid Ferdous was arrested on early Wednesday on charge of sexual harassment of his female students.
Mahfujur, electrical and electronic engineering associate professor, was remanded in police custody for two days for interrogation in a case fled with Kalabagan police station on charge of sexual harassment.
Metropolitan magistrate Delwar Hossain passed the order after Kalabagan police sub-inspector Shamim Ahmed, also the investigation officer of the case, produced Mahfujur before the court seeking him in custody for seven days.
Shamim said that Mahfujur was arrested at his Eskaton Garden house at about 2:30am after the university alumni association filed the case on Tuesday.
Earlier on Saturday, the university authorities suspended Mahfujur as the students staged protests for his trial for sexually harassing their female fellows.
Department chairman Abdur Rahim Mollah said that allegations were there that Mahfujur had harassed at least two or more female students.
Mahfujur used to harass female students promising extra marks in exams, said police officers probing the incident.
A teacher of Khwaja Yunus Ali University in Sirajganj was sent to jail on Wednesday in a case field by his wife on charge of torture for dowry.
The teacher, business administration lecturer Sabbir Hossain, 30, was sent to jail when he appeared before the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal, reported New Age Correspondent in Sirajganj.
Sabbir’s wife, a Rajshahi University graduate, filed the case in October 2015.
