PROFESSOR KILLING: Movement resumes at RU

Teachers and students of Rajshahi University on Saturday resumed their movement over the murder of Professor AFM Rezaul Karim Siddiquee after the 20-day summer vacation.
Earlier on May 17, following the assurance of ministers, including home minister and health minister, the English department and Rajshahi University Teachers’ Association postponed their ongoing strike.
Over three hundred teachers and students of English department on Saturday morning brought out a procession on campus which paraded the main streets.
Later they held a short rally at Mukul Mancha, a makeshift platform set up after the nickname of the slain professor.
Addressing the rally, English department chair Professor Maswood Akhter declared that they would continue their movement on only Saturday until the ‘perpetrators’ were brought to book as Professor Siddiquee had been killed on Saturday.
Professor Muhammad Shahidullah, president of Rajshahi University Teachers’ Association, said that they were not satisfied with what the law enforcement agencies so far did to find out the killers.
‘We are not officially informed by the law enforcers about the progresses into the murder and we do not have the latest update of the case,’ he added.
