Post-poll violence: AL men vandalise 40 houses in Jessore, 20 wounded in Pabna

At least 40 houses owned by supporters of Awami League rebel chairman candidates in Jessore were vandalised while at least 20 people were injured as the bands of two rival member candidates locked their horns in Pabna on Monday.
New Age correspondent in Jessore reported that the AL men vandalised those houses at Sharsha upazila.
Former union parishad member Jahanara Begum told New Age that residences of the supporters of ‘motorbike’ symbol were attacked by the ruling party men. ‘They exploded bombs, too’, she claimed.
Kamala Begum, an elected member to the reserved seat of women, said, followers of the boat symbol carried out attacks at her residence as she did not favour AL nominated chairman candidate.
Sub-inspector Habib, in-charge of Baganchhara police camp, said police will resist any further attack.
In Pabna, at least 20 people were injured as the supporters of two rival member candidates clashed at Charghoshpur area of Hemayetpur union in Pabna Sadar upazila.
The clash took place between the supporters of Afjal Hossain and Bokul Sardar over a poll dispute around 10:00am. Both people are incumbent members of the union.
The officer-in-charge of Pabna Sadar police, Md. Abdullah Al Hasan, said that the followers of both the groups started debating over a poll dispute at the residence of one Yakub Ali that prompted the clash.
Both groups used fire arms and other lethal weapons, he said.
Of the injured Sirajul Islam, 35, Motiar Rahman, 50, Nizam Sardar, 35, Omar Ali, 32, Motiur Rahman, 35, Wazed Ali, 40, Ashraf Ali, 50, Sirajul Islam, 40, Aslam Hossain, 38, Kalam Khan, 55, Shamsher Ali, 40, Nur Mohammad, 32, Md. Rakib, 22, Milon, 26, Mostafur Rahman, 28 were admitted to Pabna Medical College and Hospital with deep wounds.
Additional policemen have been deployed in the area, the OC said, adding, a tense situation is prevailing in the neighbourhoods.
None of them won the polls, held on June 4, he said.
