Huda to back 14-party alliance programmes: Nasim
The Nazmul Huda-led Trinamool BNP from now on will express solidarity with and join programmes to be announced by the Awami League-led 14-party alliance.
Ruling alliance coordinator and Awami League presidium member Mohammed Nasim came up with the disclosure at a press briefing after a meeting of the combine at AL president’s Dhanmondi political office here on Monday.
Earlier, Nazmul Huda, a former BNP leader, went to the office and exchanged views with the alliance leaders.
Nasim, also the health minister, said the aim of the 14-party is to build non-communal Bangladesh under Sheikh Hasina’s leadership.
About the meeting with Nazmul Huda, he said the process will continue and the alliance will hold similar views-exchange meetings with other non-communal parties in phases.
Nasim said Huda’s party will express solidarity with the programmes of the 14-party alliance and take part in human chains to be held on June 19 across the country planned for protesting militancy and recent secret killings.
At the briefing, Nazmul Huda said, ‘There’s no scope of doing politics in curbing terrorism. We fully support the steps taken by prime minister Sheikh Hasina.’
In reply of a query whether the party is joining the ruling alliance, the former BNP minister replied in the negative, saying, ‘We aren’t joining the alliance. But we would take part in its ongoing anti-terrorism programmes.’
