Shooting baby in womb: Prime accused BCL leader released on bail

A Bangladesh Chhatra League leader also the prime accused of killing a man and injuring an expecting woman and her baby inside the womb with bullet was released on bail on Monday.
Magura unit Chhatra League vice-president Sumon Sen, named as the prime accused in the charge sheet, was released from Magura jail as he obtained bail from the High Court, said Magura police officer-in-charge AKM Azmal Huda.
Police on December 31, 2015 submitted the charge sheet against 17 people including Sumon in a case for killing a person and injuring a woman and her baby in the womb by bullets during a factional clash of Juba League activists in Magura on July 23, 2015.
Police officials said that 12 including Sumon amongst the 17 accused named in the charge sheet were now on bail. Four accused were now behind the bar while the rest one was still in hiding.
A seven-month pregnant mother, Nazma Begum, 30, her uncle-in-law Momin Bhuiyan, 65, and another man, Miraz, 30, sustained bullet injuries as they were caught in the line of fire during a clash between two groups of Juba League at Doarpara of Magura sadar upazila on July 23.
They were taken to Magura Sadar Hospital where Nazma gave
birth to a baby through caesarean-section on that night. It was found
after the birth that the newborn also sustained bullet wounds while in the womb.
Momin Bhuiyan succumbed to his injuries at the hospital on July 25.
Later, the baby of Nazma was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital on July 25. A case was filed against 16 people with Magura sadar police station on July 26.
