Government out to eliminate BNP: Khaleda

Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia on Tuesday alleged that the ‘illegal’ government of Sheikh Hasina was out to eliminate the party in order to perpetuate the power forever.
There is no democracy, rule of law, good governance, justice and security of people’s life and property in the country, she said at an iftar party organised by Dhaka city BNP at Ladies Club in Dhaka.
‘Under such circumstances, anything can happen at any place at any moment,’ she added.
She said that while there was no security of life and property of anyone, the government was busy to ensure security of ‘unelected, self declared’ prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
She alleged that even using public address system at mosques for azan (call for prayers) was not allowed in the name of Hasina’s security.
Khaleda asked Hasina whether her security was the reason behind it or there was any directive from somewhere that no PA system would be allowed for azan in Bangladesh.
Referring to the recent targeted killings including the killing of foreign nationals in the country, she said that still no perpetrator was caught as perpetrators belonged to the ruling party.
She asked the government to catch the real criminals and assured that her party wanted to extend cooperation to this end.
Dhaka city BNP convener Mirza Abbas, also BNP standing committee member, presided over the iftar-party attended by leaders of BNP and front and associate organisations.
