RAB, police personnel behind enforced disappearance: Khaleda

Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia on Wednesday warned that those RAB and police members who were behind enforced disappearance of her party leaders and activists would be tried one day.
Briefly addressing an iftar party, she said Rapid Action Battalion and police members who committed this
‘injustice’ would never be forgiven.
Khaleda hosted the iftar programme at a Gulshan hotel of the capital for family members of those leaders and activists of BNP, its front and associate organisations who were victims of forced disappearance.
She alleged that BNP leaders and activists were killed and made victims of enforced disappearance in 2013 to weaken the party to ensure ruling Awami League’s victory in the election of January 2014.
Khaleda said people did not go for casting vote in that election: this was how they registered their protest against the election.
People hate the Awami League government and they want their immediate exit to get rid of it, she said.
BNP also wants restoration of democracy and if democratic atmosphere return to the country, her party will carry out efforts to trace the missing party leaders and activists, she told the programme.
The BNP chief observed that family members of the victims would get some relief if the perpetrators were tried, even if they would not get back their near and dear ones.
An emotional Khaleda could not hold back her tears saying she herself could feel the pain of losing child.
She said long time suffering in jail could be tolerated but killing in crossfire was not acceptable.
An innocent boy would be killed without trial cannot be accepted, she bemoaned.
Khaleda told family members of the victims that like them she and her party also expected the return of those were victims of forced disappearance.
She termed the ruling Awami League a party of ‘killer, oppressor and secret killer’.
She said so far around 16,000 people were arrested in combing operation and of them 4,000 belonged to BNP.
The BNP chairperson said the target of Awami League was to destroy BNP out of envy, one of the reasons of which was that young and good boys and girls were coming to BNP being inspired by the party’s ideal of patriotism.
The BNP chairperson talked to the victims’ family members, listened to their painful stories of disappearance of their beloved ones and consoled them.
Ridhi Hossain, minor daughter of Parvez Hossain, Chhatra Dal leader of Bangshal thana, who was victim of enforced disappearance, said she wanted to walk holding her father’s hand and urged all to bring back her dad.
Another kid Ahad, son of Chhatra Dal ward unit leader Chanchal, another victim of the forced disappearance, urged the prime minister to give back his father.
He said he wanted to buy Eid dress with his father.
Shamsuddin Ahmed, father of Nazimuddin Munna, a Chhatra Dal leader of city’s Airport thana unit and victim of forced disappearance, blamed the prime minister for the disappearance and killing of their sons.
Khaleda gave money and Eid dresses to the family members of the victims.
BNP leaders including Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Moudud Ahmed, Jamiruddin Sircar and Mirza Abbas, among others, were present.
