Gana Forum calls for nat’l unity to curb extremism
Gana Forum on Saturday called for forging national unity to curb the ‘Islamist militant forces’ in the country in the wake of the terrorist attack at Gulshan in Dhaka and Sholakia in Kishoreganj.
Eminent jurist and president of the party Kamal Hossain at a press conference at National Press Club termed the series of attacks by the militant forces a serious crisis and called on all the political parties and social organisations to sit in dialogue to form a national consensus to face the militant forces jointly.
He called on the government and opposition political parties to be united in the issue of militancy rising above their differences.
He also called on the government to take effective steps to curb the militant forces in the country.
The standing committee of the party on Saturday at a meeting in the capital also finalised a 10-point demand.
Mostafa Mohsin Montu, general secretary of the party, placed the demands that include restoring rule of law, ensuring democracy in the state and society, stopping extra judicial killings, ensuring voting rights of people and holding free, fair and participatory general elections.
Executive president of the party Subrata Chowdhury, standing committee members Mofizul Islam Khan Kamal, Altaf Hossain, Abdul Aziz, Mostaque Hossain, central leader Rafiqul Islam Pathik and others attended the press conference.
