Professor Dr. Muhammad Serajul Akbar (1944 – 09 March 2015) was a Bangladesh Awami League Politician, Physician, Teacher and Former Member of Parliament representing Magura-1 constituency. He served as the President of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society for two terms. He was not only a successful politician, he also a renowned pediatrician in the country.
Akbar was born in Magura District. In 1978 he joined Dhaka Shishu Hospital as its director. He then joined the Bangladesh Institute of Child Health as a professor. In 1996 he was elected to parliament from Magura-1 on a Bangladesh Awami League nomination. He was re-elected to 2001. He was the President of Magura District unit Awami League. Akbar was re-elected to parliament in 2008 and 2014. Despite being elected as a Member of Parliament four times, he has not deprived anyone of medical services.
This multi-talented leader was very popular in Magura. He died of cardiac arrest at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Disease in Dhaka on 9 March 2015.
