Illegal money used in extremism: ACC chief

The Anti-Corruption Commission chairman Iqbal Mahmood said Sunday that illegally earned money through corruption was being used in militant activities.
While exchanging views with journalists, he asked how else such huge sums could come from foreign bank accounts?
He said that none would spend their legally earned money on militant activities.
The ACC hosted the session at its conference room to discuss its draft five-year strategy for 2016-21 with senior journalists.
Iqbal said that none would be safe in the world in future unless ‘economic terrorism and militancy’ were addressed.
He described the issues as ‘major threats’ to the world today.
The ACC chief termed black money as a ‘big hole of corruption’ in which many people, including tax officials, were involved.
He said that the ACC would send specific recommendations to the government soon with regard to black money.
He said that none should be allowed to use black money as it increases corruption.
He said that corruption engulfed banking and all the sectors in the country.
He said that the ACC would take action against physicians employed by the government refuse to go to rural areas though their salaries are paid from public money.
He said it’s sheer misuse of power for them not to serve rural people after taking government jobs.
Turning to corruption in the education sector, he said that the ACC would file cases against school authorities found promoting even one student to the next class after he or she fails even in a single subject.
He said any school forwards students to examination centres after they fail the school test even in one subject the ACC would consider it as misuse of power.
He said that the ACC would do everything possible to earn public trust.
He said that as the ACC Act was not ‘weak’ it had enough power to fight corruption.
He also said that the ACC was facing no political pressure.
