Gazipur knitting factory catches fire

A knitting factory at Chandra in Gazipur caught fire early Saturday and was brought under control after four and a half hours of the incident.
The fire fighters were still struggling to douse the blaze.
No casualty was reported immediately.
The factory, Tropical Knitting, caught fire around 12:55am and 13 fire fighting units immediately rushed to the spot, fire service and civil defence sources said.
They brought the fire under control around 5:30am, they said.
‘The fire would not spread anymore and the fire fighters are working to put off the flame,’ Md Farid, an operator at fire service central control room in Dhaka, told New Age at 8:00am.
The reason behind the fire in the five-storey building could not be ascertained immediately, he added.
Cracks developed in the building and ceiling of the second floor partly collapsed, a private TV channel reports.
