Corrupt judges, court officials to face the music: CJ

The Chief Justice, Md Muzammel Hossain, on Tuesday warned the lower court judges of appropriate actions if they were found indulged in any corruption.He also said action would be taken against corrupt court officials, as well.‘I’ll consider any logical allegation of corruption and appoint competent judge to inquire into the matter,’ the Chief Justice, in a written statement, told the judges participating in an annual meeting with him at the Supreme Court auditorium.All district judges, chief judicial magistrates and chief metropolitan magistrates attended the meeting.


The Chief Justice asked the judges to refer any corruption allegation of any court official to their higher authorities.He asked the judges not to adjourn hearing unnecessarily or grant time petitions filed by the respective lawyers.Muzammel Hossain also asked the judges to stay in courts as required by any court proceedings.It is unacceptable that judge will not sit in court after the lunch break, he told the judges.It was also not acceptable that judges or magistrates will come to Dhaka to meet their families on each weekend (Friday and Saturday) and return to office on Sunday, he added.The CJ expected that judges would be disciplined and punctual in discharging their duties.
