Attack on BNP vice-chairman Selima’s motorcade, 4 injured

Activists of ruling party’s student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League attacked the motorcade of former minister and Bangladesh Nationalist Party vice-chairman Selima Rahman in front of Muladi Degree College in Barisal leaving four BNP activists injured on Sunday. Witnesses said while the motorcade of the former minister was passing the college, Chhatra League activists unleashed the attack around noon Selima Rahman alleged while she was going to Muladi upazila town to attend a rally, Chhatra League members attacked her motorcade and damaged four motorcycles and injured four BNP activists.

Jubayer Ahmed Jewel, Muladi upazila unit Chhatra League president, rejected the allegation claiming none of Chhatra League was involved with the incident. Jubayer said the attack might be a sequel to rivalries between factions of BNP. Alauddin Milon, officer in charge of Muladi police station, said there was no attack on the motorcade. He said Chhatra League members assembled in front of the college to receive Awami League-backed upazila vice-chairman Mainul Hasan Sabuj as he returned home from foreign tours. At that time, motorcade of BNP leader Selima Rahman was passing the area and panicked BNP activist seeing rush of Chhatra League members might have caused something wrong.
