JUST students block road, burn truck after 3 killed in road accident
Students of Jessore University of Science and Technology (JUST) set fire to a truck and put barricade on Jessore-Chougacca road on Friday, protesting the death three people including a fellow student in a road accident in the morning. Their protest followed a fatal accident in the morning when a truck rammed into a three-wheeler, locally known as Nasiman, at Churamonkati of Jessore. The victims include a university student, who was identified as Abu Hanif, 25, a student of Jessore University of Science and Technology. Reshma Sharmin, assistant superintendent of Jessore police, told New Age that the students of Jessore Science and Technology Institute set fire to the ‘killer’ truck as its driver fled from the scene soon after the accident. Student also blocked the road,’ she added.
Police were trying to control the situation, Reshma said. Khadiza Begum, 50, wife of Maulana Habibur Rahman of Chaugasa upazila and Anisur Rahman, 22, son of Ruhul Amin of the same area were other victims. Officer-in-charge of Jessore Kotowali police, Enamul Huq, said a Chaugasa-bound three-wheeler collided head on with a truck from opposite direction that left three passengers dead on the spot. The injured eight three-wheeler passengers were taken to the Jessore General Hospital immediately after the accident, he added.
