Qaisar to die for war crimes

The International Crimes Tribunal-2 on Tuesday awarded detained former Jatiya Party state minister Syed Md Qaisar death penalty for committing war crimes, including genocide, killings and rape, during the liberation war in 1971.The tribunal found him guilty on 14 charges out of a total of 16.A three-member tribunal pronounced the unanimous judgement against Qaisar, now 74, in a crowded courtroom amid tight security.‘….he be hanged by the neck till he is dead…,’ the presiding judge, Justice Obaidul Hassan, pronounced the verdict at about 12:20pm in presence of his two colleagues, namely, justice Muzibur Rahman Miah and justice Shahinur Islam.
Earlier, Qaisar was taken to the International Crimes Tribunal-2 at around 08:15am this morning.


He was tried for genocide, murders, extermination, enslavement, deportation, abduction and torture in confinement, rapes, other inhuman acts and superior war crimes responsibility, all committed in 1971.In 1971, he was a leader of Convention Muslim League.Hundreds of people, including freedom fighters and political and cultural activists, who gathered outside the tribunal, as well as the Ganajagaran Mancha activists at Shahbagh received the news with cheers.
