BNP fails to meet DMP commissioner

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Thursday claimed that officials of Dhaka Metropolitan Police denied holding any meeting with a delegation of the party at the DMP headquarters.
‘We went there [DMP headquarters] to meet with the DMP commissioner or the person next to him to discuss about granting permission sought for holding a rally at the Suhrawardy Uddyan on November 13,’ BNP chairperson’s advisor Abdus Salam told reporters emerging from the DMP headquarters.
The DMP deputy commissioner (media and public relations) Masudur Rahman told New Age that the DMP commissioner and other senior officials were out of office when the BNP delegation went to meet them.
He said that the BNP team had gone there without appointment.
Abdus Salam said they would again go to the DMP office on Friday or Saturday if the commissioner gives them time.
On November 8, BNP rescheduled its rally for November 13 and changed the venue to Suhrawardy Udyan from Nayapaltan.
On the day, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at a press conference at the party central office said, ‘We are rescheduling our today’s rally marking the November 7 national revolution and solidarity day for November 13 at the Suhrawardy Udyan, as we have not got police permission to hold the rally at Nayapaltan.’
