Blockade to continue: Khaleda
Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia on Sunday asked the people to continue the blockade for indefinite period, said former lawmaker of the party, Shammi Akhter quoting the Khaleda. After the attending the Akheri Munajat of the first phase of Biswa Ijtema with Khaleda Zia at her office in Gulshan, Shammi told reporters the chairperson directed the countrymen to continue the blockade. ‘She is now feeling better than the past and more confident about success of the ongoing movement, said Shammi who was also accompanied by former MP Helen Zerin Khan. Meanwhile, the security measures were suddenly tightened around the chairperson’s office on Sunday morning while additional police were seen deployed at the both sides of the office gate. Nine trucks were stranded newly at the office gate at around 1:00pm and half-an-hour later the trucks were withdrawn. The police cordoned off Khaleda’s Gulshan office at about 11:30pm on January 3, ahead of the rally the BNP-led alliance had planned for January 5 marking its ‘democracy killing day’ on the anniversary of the January 5, 2014 elections, boycotted by all opposition parties. The police locked the gate of the office from outside at around noon on January 5 as soon as they heard that Khaleda was preparing to leave the office to attend the rally and then she called a countrywide non-stop blockade.
