Subhan gets death penalty.

International Crimes Tribunal -2 on Wednesday awarded death penalty to Jamaat-e-Islami leader Abdus Subhan for crimes against humanity that he had committed during the country’s independence war in 1971.Six out of the nine charges brought against Subhan, were proved beyond doubt. He got death sentence against three charges and life time imprisonment against two more and five year imprisonment over another charge.
Tribunal-2 chairman Obaidul Hassan pronounced the verdict while two other judges, justice Mozibur Rahman Miah and justice Shahinur Islam, were also present there around 11:50am.


The International Crimes Tribunal-2 completed the trial of Jamaat leader on December 4, 2014 and kept the verdict for delivery on a later date.
The prosecution team expressed their satisfaction over the verdict while the defence team rejected the judgment saying they would appeal against the judgement.
Born in the village of Tailkundi, Sujanagar of Pabna in 1936, Subhan was the founder amir of Pabna district chapter of Jamaat. Arrested on September 20, 2012 in an unrelated case, he was shown arrested on war crimes charges after three days. In a controversial by-election held by the occupation army in 1971 Subhan was elected a member of National Assembly of Pakistan from a Pabna seat, the prosecution said. In 1971, he also performed as the vice-president of Pabna district ‘peace committee.’
