88th day blockade passes loosely.
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party-led alliance sponsored 88th day of current non-stop blockade on Friday passed off loosely without any reported incident of violence. The opposition alliance has been enforcing the nationwide road-rail-waterways blockade for an indefinite period since January 6 for holding an election under a non-party administration. The protracted blockade has apparently lost steam, despite frequent hartals to reinforce the slackening blockade. Picketing in favour of blockade was not visible in the capital and other cities. Daily life was normal in the capital and elsewhere on Friday, the weekend, ignoring the blockade, as in the recent days. A lot of vehicles moved on the roads in Dhaka all day. Highways and inter-district routes witnessed a good number of buses and other modes of transport. Trains ran on time and ferry services were unaffected by the blockade. New Age correspondents in Rajshahi, Barisal, Rangpur and Sylhet divisional cities reported that life was normal and picketing in favour of the blockade was not visible in the cities on Friday.
