Khaleda takes to the streets on behalf of Tabith
Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia on Saturday took part in electioneering in favour of her party-backed candidates seeking votes for Tabith Awal, mayoral candidate for Dhaka North City Corporation. During her mass contact for five hours starting from about 4:00pm at different parts in the north city corporation area, Khaleda held up and displayed the election poster of Tabith and distributed leaflets among shop owners, salesman, customers and pedestrians, seeking their votes. In an unscheduled programme, the BNP-led 20-party alliance chief went to the Pink City shopping mall at Gulshan 2 around 4:15pm and visited different shops and exchanged greetings with shop owners, salesman and customers and sought their vote.
Then she drove to Gulshan 1 and crisscrossed the city corporation market, and after that, she went to the Navana tower. Wearing a pink sari, Khaleda also campaigned at Mohakhali, Banani, Gulshan 2, Baridhara, Natun Bazar link road, Badda and Hatirjheel areas and sought vote for Tabith. While moving on the roads, Khaleda Zia was waving her hands from inside her car to draw peoples’ attention while visiting several streets in the area. In some places, she directly talked to people who gathered spontaneously around her. She encouraged them to vote for her party-backed candidates. Tabith Awal joined Khaleda when she was campaigning in Banani area around 7:00pm. BNP men were seen chanting slogans, distributing leaflets and posters among voters and using hand speakers during the campaign. At Hatirjheel, a young pedestrian told Khaleda: ‘we want positive politics’. In reply, the BNP chairperson said her party too believes in positive politics. BNP vice chairman Selima Rahman and Mohila Dal general secretary Shirin Sultana, among others, were accompanying the party chief during the campaign. Elections to the Dhaka and Chittagong city corporations will be held on April 28.
