Khaleda barred from electioneering at Uttara.

Activists of ruling Awami League on Sunday afternoon barred Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia to conduct electioneering for the party-backed mayoral candidate Tabith Awal at sector 1 Uttara in Dhaka. Several hundred supporters of Awami League carrying black flags chanted slogans branding Khaleda as ‘killer’ and asked her to ‘return to Pakistan’ as her motorcade reached the spot at around 5:00pm. Facing the obstruction, the BNP chief headed for other locations in Uttara to seek vote for Tabith. Awami League supporters also gathered at Cosmo Shopping Complex carrying black flags but they backed off as a large group of BNP activists approached them. The Awami League men also showed black flag to Khaleda at North Tower and threw a black flag on her vehicle there. Police later drove them away. The BNP chief drove to several shopping mall in Uttara and distributed leaflets seeking votes for Tabith at Uttara and talked businessmen and shoppers. At SB Plaza, Khaleda requested a small gathering to vote for Tabith saying that she had placed candidates from new generation. A lady shopper thanked her for placing new face saying, ‘We want change.’
