Hospital refuses to allow police to interrogate Salah Uddin.
North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences in Shillong had not allowed the East Khasi Hills police investigators to interrogate Bangladesh Nationalist Party leader Salah Uddin Ahmed considering his physical condition.‘The police had requested the hospital on several occasions since he was transferred to the hospital, but the hospital had refused considering his health condition,’ one of Salah Uddin’s family members told New Age after visiting him at the Critical Care Unit in the evening on Sunday.
Physicians from each department often were visiting him and constantly monitoring his health condition, the visitor said, adding, ‘his wife [Hasina Ahmed] is looking after his meal and other facilities.’
The family member said that the East Khasi Hills police interrogated him once in the Civil Hospital.
‘Police could not give reply his query about his presence in Shillong,’ the family member said.
Vivek Syiem, superintendent of police (city) in charge of East Khasi Hills, could not be reached after several attempts on Sunday, Indian weekend.
BNP assistant office secretary Abdul Latif Jony, now in Shillong, said that more treatment of Shala Uddin was likely start this evening after the physicians receive all reports of medical tests conducted in the last few days.
Salah Uddin, former lawmaker and state minister, was suffering from heart, kidney and prostrate complications.
On May 20, Salah Uddin was shifted to the NEIGRIHM from Shillong Civil Hospital, where he was admitted in police custody on May 11.
The BNP leader was first taken to the Shillong Civil Hospital on May 11, then admitted to the Meghalaya Institute of Mental Health and Neurological Science in Shillong and again admitted to the Shillong Civil Hospital on May 12.
