TRAFFIC CONGESTION: DMP writes to city corporations

Dhaka Metropolitan Police have informed the two Dhaka city corporations that over 100 potholes, construction works of flyovers and piles of garbage in the city streets are causing huge traffic congestions and making difficult for traffic department to maintain traffic in the capital during Ramadan. DMP traffic department has written to the two city corporations to cover up those potholes and clean garbage as earlier as possible, DMP joint commissioner (traffic) Mosleh Uddin Ahmed told New Age n Saturday. A DMP official said that the letters were sent following a meeting held at the home ministry few days ago in presence of the state minister Asaduzzaman Khan, two city mayors, inspector general of police and DMP commissioner. DMP commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia told the meeting that the traffic department was facing difficulties in managing traffic because of development works of Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority, potholes and pits in the streets at several points. The DMP chief requested all the authorities concerned, including the two mayors, to fill all potholes and suspend development and construction works of the water sully authority and flyovers in Ramadan, the officials said. ‘If necessary, the authorities concerned should dig hole at night and fill them by morning,’ said DMP deputy commissioner for media and public relations Muntasirul Islam quoting the DMP commissioner.
