PM distributes WC money

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday handed over the cheques to the national cricket team players, coaches and other officials for the outstanding successes in the World Cup and home series against Pakistan. An amount of Tk 820,359,000 was distributed among the players, coaches and other officials during a programme hosted at the prime minister at her residence. The prime minster announced the reward as Bangladesh reached the World Cup quarter-final for the first time and followed that success with 3-0 win over Pakistan in a home series. Bangladesh also beat India 2-1 in recent series, but no incentives were announced for that. During the programme, the prime minister told the players that she could not go to the field during the India series due to her illness but her mind was always there in the field, reports United News of Bangladesh. ‘I watched all the games against the Indian team,’ the news agency quoted her as saying. The prime minister advised the players to play sincerely against the South African team in the series beginning today. ‘County’s prestige and honour is at your hand, but I don’t want to put you under mental pressure…there’s always win and loss in games, but you have to play your best, that’s it,’ she said. BCB president Nazmul Hasan and Bangladesh Cricket Team captain Mashrafee bin Murtaza also spoke at the occasion. News Courtesy: www.newagebd.net
