Raushan urges PM to inspect city in disguise
The opposition leader in parliament, Raushan Ershad, on Wednesday said ordinary people in the city were passing their days in misery and suggested the prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, travel around the city in disguise to see the actual picture of the fate of people.
‘Come out in guise at night and roam around Dhaka to see what misery people are facing. You can come out wearing a veil,’ Raushan said in her concluding speech at the sixth session of the 10th parliament.
She made the statement while talking about the city’s perennial traffic congestion, dumping of waste at places, water logging and sub-standard living conditions of city slum dwellers.
She said incidents of crime, including murder and mugging, had been increasing due to lack of work in the country.
Raushan urged the government to form a committee to stop illegal drug abuse which is destroying young people in the country.
She said her party participated in the two budget sessions of the current parliament to show that they played a constructive role as opposition party.
‘Our party is small, but we are vocal and want to play the due role of the opposition in the House,’ she said.
Raushan thanked the Prime Minister as the country achieved lower middle-income status. She, however, raised doubt on how the country could enter the middle income group when around four and a half crore people were living under poverty.
