Dilip trades blame to cover up failure: Amu
Immediate past industries minister Amir Hossain Amu on Monday said that former industries minister Dilip Barua had been trading blames to hide his failure in relocating chemical warehouses from the Old Town of Dhaka.
Amu, also a senior leader of ruling Awami League, made the comment while briefing reporters in his house in the city’s Eskaton area against the backdrop of Dilip Barua’s comment on Saturday where he blamed his successor Amu for delay in relocating the chemical warehouses.
‘Dilip Barua might be criticised for his personal incapability. He might have been panicked thinking this and tried to trade blame on me,’ Amu said.
Amu said that the government, after Nimtali fire that claimed 124 lives in 2010, decided to build a ‘chemical village’ and formed a 10-member-committee led by the then BSCIC chairman in a meeting presided over by the then home minister Sahara Khatun.
‘Though the then industries minister Dilip Barua was scheduled to lead the committee he was not given the charge for his lack of skill, inability and carelessness. His failure is evident to this end,’ Amu said.
He claimed that he advanced the process of implementing the project to a large extent but his tenure ended after approval of 50 acres of land for the project.
The former minister pointed out that the delay in shifting the chemical warehouses and factories occurred as the businessmen, who run their businesses in a small scale, were not willing to shift their shops. ‘Besides, the issue was not related to the industries ministry.’
Amu said that the government was not embarrassed at all at comment of Dilip Barua, also president of Samyabadi Dal.
‘None of Dilip Barua’s party has ability even to be elected as a union council chairman. None would have known him if he did not join 14-party-alliance,’ he said.
Dilip Barua blamed his successor on Saturday while briefing reporters at Chawk Bazar during his visit to the fire affected area.
At least 67 people were killed and many others injured in a fire that broke at Chawk Bazar on Wednesday night.
