Final Assam NRC published

The final list of Assam National Register of Citizens with individual statuses of all the 3.30 crore applicants has been published online, reports India Today.

All the individuals in Assam, who were a part of the Assam NRC exercise meant to root out the illegal immigrants from the state, can now check their status online.

All persons who have applied for the inclusion of their names in the NRC list and have a valid ARN number can check their final status online at nrcassam.nic.in.

The list which was published on Saturday includes the names of those who have been accepted as the citizens of Assam, excluded and those whose appeals are pending. The Assam individuals can also check the names of their family members in the final list which has been published online. A total of 3,30,27,661 persons had applied for inclusion of their names in the updated list of NRC Assam. More than 19 lakh people in Assam were excluded from the final list of the NRC that was released by the government on August 31, while over three 3.11 crore persons were included.

As per the guidelines issued by the Central government, the excluded persons can approach one of the 400 foreigners’ tribunals and appeal against their exclusions. The tribunals are set up the government to hear the appeals of those who have been excluded from the Assam NRC list.
