A Bangladeshi still missing since Beirut explosions

A Bangladeshi expatriate worker in Lebanon is still missing since the twin deadly explosions at Beriut port on Tuesday, according to the Bangladesh embassy in the city.

The embassy found several new injured workers raising the total number of injured Bangladeshis to some 108, including 21 Bangladesh Navy peacekeepers.

‘We have received an application from the community with a request to find out a Bangladeshi worker who is missing since the explosions,’ Bangladesh embassy first secretary Abdullah Al Mamun told New Age over phone on Friday evening. ‘We are trying to locate the person.’

The injured were undergoing treatment in three hospitals.

Four Bangladeshi workers were killed in the explosions.

Foreign ministry officials in Dhaka said that the government was to decide on bringing back the bodies.

The decision also depends on the condition of the corpses, they added.

Some 137 people were killed and at least 5,000 found injured in the explosions that destroyed a part of the Beirut city and a seaport.
