India names Doraiswami as next high commissioner to Bangladesh
The Indian government has appointed Vikram Kumar Doraiswami as the next high commissioner of India to Bangladesh.
The Ministry of External Affairs of India announced his name on Thursday night.
Vikram, a 1992 batch officer of the Indian foreign service, is currently an additional secretary at the MEA.
He was also joint secretary of the Bangladesh-Myanmar desk and Indian ambassador to South Korea.
‘He is expected to take up the assignment shortly,’ MEA said in the press release.
Vikram would replace Riva Ganguly Das, also a career diplomat, as the Indian authorities are withdrawing her midway through her tenure to the post.
She took up her responsibility as high commissioner in March 2019.
Career diplomats are generally made ambassadors and high commissioners for three years unless appointed on contract on political considerations.
Riva, who is likely to leave Dhaka soon, would join as secretary (East) at the MEA.
