BNP demands arrest of Sunderganj MP

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Saturday demanded immediate arrest of ruling Awami League lawmaker Manjurul Islam Liton for shooting at a nine-year boy in the legs at his constituency at Sundarganj in Gaibanfor on Friday.
BNP spokesman Asaduzzaman Ripon at a briefing at the party’s central office also demanded immediate dissolution of the parliament to start a process for a fresh election under a non-party neutral government saying that the government had no moral right to stay in power.
He said that ruling party miscreants became more desperate after the ruling party chief stated abroad that no election would be held before 2019.
Ripon criticised the Sundraganj police station officer-in-charge for stating that it was not certain whether the bullets that hit the boy were fired from the lawmaker’s weapon.
He said it could be certain if the licensed arm of the lawmaker was confiscated and examined, the account of bullets allotted to him was taken.
Replying to a query, Ripon said that the killing of a Japanese citizen in Rangpur on Saturday showed that there was no security of common people and the government had totally failed to ensure good governance.
He alleged that the government was creating obstacle to observing opposition political programmes across the country and obstructing the process of BNP reorganisation through law enforcers and ruling party criminals.
He said that a union-level council session at the house of former BNP lawmaker Ashrafuddin Nizan’s house in Lakshmipur was attacked on Friday by ruling party goons.
Ripon alleged that some mass media outlets owned by some businessmen close to the government and ministers were involved in ‘ill-attempts’ to publish and broadcast the opposition’s statements in distorted way.
