Potato price increases in capital

The price of potato witnessed a further rise in the Dhaka’s kitchen market over the week ending Friday while the prices of vegetables started to come down thanks to increased supply of winter variety.
According to traders, the price of potato increased due to off seasonal supply shortage as the stock of the item is near to end.
They said that consumers would have to pay high price for potato for one more month until harvesting of new one.
The price of potato increased by Tk 3 a kg and the item was selling at Tk 30-Tk 32 a kg over the week.
The prices of vegetables decreased by Tk 10-Tk 15 a kg during the period.
Aubergine was selling at Tk 40-Tk 50 a kg, bitter gourd at Tk 35 a kg, okra at Tk 40 a kg, cauliflower at Tk 30 a kg, cabbage at Tk 25 a kg, bean at Tk 30-Tk 40 a kg, cucumber at Tk 30 a kg, tomato at Tk 80 a kg, papaya at Tk 25 a kg and green chilli at Tk 100 a kg over the week.
The price of broiler decreased by Tk 5 a kilogram and the item was selling at Tk 120-Tk 130 a kg while the locally-bred hens were selling at Tk 280-Tk 320 a kg on the day.
Beef was selling at Tk 370-Tk 480 a kg while mutton was selling at Tk 500-Tk 550 a kg on Friday.
The prices of fish decreased a bit over the week.
Rohita was selling at Tk 200-Tk 320 a kg, katla at Tk 200-Tk 300 a kg, pangas at Tk 140-Tk 200 a kg and tilapia at Tk 120-Tk 180 a kg, depending on their size and quality.
Unpacked soya bean oil was selling at Tk 76-Tk 80 a litre on Friday while palm oil was selling at Tk 64-Tk 66 a litre on the day.
The price of bottled soya bean oil remained unchanged. A one-litre container of soya bean oil was selling at Tk 100 while a five-litre container was selling at Tk 470-Tk 480 on Friday.
The price of onion decreased by Tk 5 a kg and the local item was selling at Tk 55-Tk 60 a kg while imported item was selling at Tk 50 a kg on Friday.
The prices of garlic remained unchanged and the imported item was selling at Tk 110-Tk 120 a kg while the local variety was selling at Tk 80 a kg on Friday.
The price of egg remained unchanged and the item was selling at Tk 32 a hali (four pieces) in the city.
Red lentil price also remained unchanged. The fine variety of the item was selling at Tk 120-Tk 130 a kg while the imported one (coarse variety) was selling at Tk 100 a kg.
The price of coarse variety of rice was retailing at Tk 32-Tk 34 a kg over the week.
The fine variety of miniket rice was selling at Tk 50-Tk 53 a kg while the coarse variety was retailing at Tk 45-Tk 48 a kg in the city’s retail market.
The fine variety of BR-28 rice was selling at Tk 42-Tk 45 a kg and the coarse variety was selling at Tk 38-Tk 40 a kg on Friday.
